The acre
This is Doña María Elena's acre.
She grows cocoa in Esmeraldas. Her trees feed the cooperative that sells to Original Beans in Europe. When a dry spell starts, it shows in her leaves weeks after the loss is already decided — and by then the choice to water, or to wait, is gone.
Her stakes are one acre and one season. Her antagonist is time she can't see passing.

The mechanic

The evidence

Each plate is real Sentinel-2 output with its own instrument legend. True-color reads as one green sheet; the indices pull it apart — vigorous canopy from river, town, and cleared ground.

Europe's deforestation rule (EUDR) makes every importer prove, plot by plot, that their cocoa didn't clear forest. They can't do that for thousands of smallholders. The same light that warns María Elena produces that proof — so the buyer funds the advisory that reaches her first.
